Emergency Contact Person: NONE

There should have other options when filling this field in a form.

In the past weeks, I have been filling a lot of forms with an Emergency Contact Person field and all I want to write is None!

I used to feel sad about this, but I still hope that I am not the only one in this situation. I have friends, family, the employer that I could use for this field but, do I want or trust them in case something happens to me? NO!

When I was a teenager and lived on my own — I live by myself since I was 15 years old — all forms request just the mother’s or parents name, they don’t ask if you live with them, the type of relationship you have or if they will be available for you.

I am known for being adventurous in my family. I had a few bad accidents during my childhood and my parents were never available when contacted. Of course that they did their best afterward but, honestly, they were not very effective as my emergency contact.

There Should Be Options …

Whenever I needed help, it was strangers who helped me or I did it myself. So why do I need to fill an emergency contact person?

There should be the option to leave it blank or in case of an insurance application, to designate an…
