One of the first things I did soon as I moved to Japan, was to get my driver license. As I already had a driver license from my home country, I just needed to transfer it.

This process includes a written and a practical one.

The written test can be done in other languages besides Japanese and it’s really easy. The practical test is the problem…

Here, the driver seat is on the left side. For right side drivers, it is a little confusing at first, which was my case. Everything is opposite of what I was used to while driving and even inside the car, it takes some time to get used with gear and stuff.

The test was just to drive a circuit… an empty one with a police officer sit by my side evaluating me. This same officer was also the one who was going to give me my new driver license if I pass. Easy, right?

I had had some tips before scheduling my test but on the day, while waiting for my turn with several foreigners on the same situation, my anxiety was super high as everyone else. The chances of getting your license on the first test are practically zero and everyone knows it.
